Completed sample of my rug modules, the details are showing some of my digitally printed fabric woven into the rug

I will be making 6 of these modules that fit together to create a massive rug or can be moved around to suit any individuals interior

These images are from my honours mid semester review. These are prototypes of cushions and a module rug. The chair I am hoping to upholster in my own fabrics.

I am using old and new materials and techniques and bringing them together to blur the boundaries between them. I am using weaving and digital printing as my main techniques.

Hailing from Morocco, Boucharouette rugs are a colourful explosion of Berber craft and style. The term Boucharouette literally means torn and re-used clothing – which is exactly what goes in to these unique floor coverings. They are traditionally hung on walls as a highly decorative…

My first rug module

It was woven on a floor loom using the technique of 4-end block weave and shaft shifting

The design is inspired by the patchwork technique called log cabin

The back of the rug reverses the colours from the front and creates a different pattern on the back

Art and fashion collide in this show-stopping Thomas Paul rug collection. Having worked with such designers as Bill Blass, Calvin Klein and DKNY, it is little wonder these hand-tuft creations boast a captivating mix of colour, shape and pattern that will instantly transform any space.

Sections of my Weaving

This is halfway through one of my woven rug modules for my honours project.

The fabrics are hand dyed with procion dyes and cut up and woven. I am using the 4-end block weave technique with shaft switching.

My inspiration for the design has come from my love of patchwork patterns.

Friendship Bracelet Chevron Rug | The House That Lars Built
Sometimes I think that the internet hears what I say… just yesterdayI posted that awesome DIY from Design Sponge on the friendship bracelet chair pad and mentioned that it would be cool to make a rug. Well here it is! And I was right, it isawesome! Not sure if I would attempt a giant one, but as a door mat this is perfect. And I very much love the colours used! Right, weekend project decided!
